Aviation bird collisions records are public records

According to USA TODAY, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) "plans to block public access to its records of aircraft and bird collisions". What's the explanation for that approach? It is supposed that the FAA is anxious information of the sort could raise unjustified public worries as for flying safety, which in its own turn could push airports towards not reporting certain incidents. Such approach has already provoked criticism from behalf of public-records advocates.
Aircraft flight data such as bird strikes are being stored by aviation flight recorders installed on commercial airplanes so experts could investigate an incident or a crash. These recorders record information from flight voice records and the air traffic control call recording. An aviation flight records are subject to disclosure because they reside in the domain of public records.

Types of helicopters

Light Piston-engined types are helicopters like Enstrom, Schweizer 300 or Robinson that have 2 to 3 seats, are cheap in price and maintenance and can provide the speed of flying at 80-110mph. A private helicopter pilot will normally start feeling soon they outgrew by this type because of its limited number of seats and actual load restrictions. These types of helicopter are considered as low-reliability class, which makes them less fitting to be used as corporate and charter aircraft. Anyway, these machines still remain very popular for the purposes of training as well as for private use. This type of helicopters is excellent for grtting introduced to flying helicopter so student would feel what it is to fly a helicopter.

Light turbine helicopters are helicopters such as the Eurocopter Squirrel, McDonnell Douglas 500E or the Bell (Agusta-Bell) Jet Ranger, and they are widely liked by both commercial and private pilots across the world.

The modern twin engined helicopters are all turbine driven machines that are considered expensive in price, but which instead let pilot enjoy a faster and much safer performance of the machine during the flight.

Learn to fly a helicopter

Get your first helicopter lesson – take a Robinson R44 or a Robinson 22 on a joyride in the skies. How to Become a Commercial Helicopter Pilot

The road to becoming a commercial helicopter pilot and getting that dream job may be longer than you think If you would like your career to involve flying in the gulf, tours, emergency medical services, corporate work, agriculture, or something along those lines, there are a few details you should pay close attention to before embarking upon your career as a commercial pilot.

The first realization is that after you have completed your initial training and hold that well earned Commercial Pilot certificate, you will have a minimum of 150 flight hours. The FAA minimum requirement under Part 61 to qualify for a Commercial certificate is 150 hours of flight time. You will most likely have somewhere between 150 and 180 hours of flight time. It is the exception rather than the norm for new pilots to complete their certificates/ratings with FAA minimums.

You have created the foundation for your career by successfully obtaining your Commercial Pilot certificate. At this point, you should hold a Private Pilot certificate, Instrument rating and Commercial Pilot certificate. These ratings are the very minimum you will need to work commercially. You are, however, probably not qualified enough to go after that dream job just yet.

Research the requirements for commercial pilot jobs. You will notice that 1000 hours is typically needed for entry level positions - with one exception. This one exception allows new pilots to be employed with low hours. Let's explore the 1000 hour requirement first.

Insurance companies dictate the 1000 flight hour minimum. They use various statistics to determine the risks for insuring pilots. One of the major factors used to determine risk is flight hours. This drives the 1000 hour minimum for entry level jobs. The exception to this is the Flight Instructor position.

Flight Instructor job requirements vary by flight school. The majority of helicopter flight schools accept Flight Instructors with low hours. The thought process in our industry is that the best way to learn is to teach.

The career track for most new pilots is to continue on with their training after they get their Commercial certificate. They obtain their CFI (Certified Flight Instructor) and CFII (Certified Flight Instructor Instrument). These pilots are now qualified to be Flight Instructors and teach student pilots.

Most new pilots use the Flight Instructor position as a stepping-stone to obtain the hours they need for the job they really want. They regard this time as paying their dues while someone else (the student) pays for their time building. New Flight Instructors are generally not very well paid. The real money comes after the 1000 hours.

A positive way to view Flight Instructor pay for new pilots is to recognize that someone else is paying for your flight hours. It brightens the picture when you add the 'soft dollar' income that comes from students paying for you to build your flight time to your earnings.

For some, Flight Instructor is the dream job. Pilots who enjoy teaching and flying build their career around flight instruction. Many of them learn the business and build an excellent reputation in their first few years of instructing. They then go on to open their own flight schools. A Flight Instructor career is both challenging and rewarding if you enjoy teaching.

There are alternatives to building your hours if you choose not to follow the traditional path of becoming a Flight Instructor first. You could obtain your Commercial certificate and then purchase an aircraft. Helicopters are expensive machines and require maintenance and insurance, so splitting costs may prove to be beneficial. There are websites and flight journals that advertise aircraft partnerships. You could go into partnership with one or more pilots and use your own helicopter to build your time.

Another option is to purchase a helicopter and learn to fly in it. This will help reduce your up front training costs. Ensure that your school of choice will train you in your own helicopter before making this purchase.

In summary, the training for commercial helicopter pilots requires dedication and commitment. Learning to fly a helicopter is expensive. Building your flight time demands long hours with low pay if you follow the Flight Instructor path. Once you successfully navigate this course, you can look forward to a magnificent career where you get paid to do what you love - fly!

Become Commercial Pilot

A Commercial Pilot Licence or, in the United States, a Commercial Pilot Certificate, is a qualification that permits the holder to act as the pilot of an aircraft for remuneration.

A flight may be operated for money, only if it meets three criteria:

  • the pilot must hold a valid commercial pilot's license
  • the aircraft must hold a valid commercial registration
  • the operator must hold a certificate or some other authorization for commercial operations
A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-issued pilot certificate is evidence that an individual is duly authorized to exercise piloting privileges. The pilot certificate is one of several kinds of airman certificates issued by FAA.

According to the Air Line Pilots Association, USA, commercial pilot certification costs around $30,000, and it involves 11 certifications/ratings, while entry-level pilots can expect to start from earning approximately $28,000 a year, but after 10 years commercial pilot's salary might reach six figures. Commercial pilots retirement threshold is at the age 60.

So, if you are are in excellent physical form and fancy you have been born to fly, don't delay with starting saving so you could consider a career as commercial airline pilot.

Esophageal cancer

Even if statistically esophageal cancer is the 8-th most frequently occurring type of cancer, it still produces much higher rate of lethal oucomes because it is nearly impossible to detect it at early stages, while at late stages there is practically no way to have it cured.

To put it in plain words, esophageal cancer developes from a malignant tumor in the esophagus (muscular tube connecting pharynx (throat) and stomach, through which food passes when you eat it).

Esophageal cancer sympthoms like difficulty or pain in course of swallowing are normally noticed and paid attention to at the stages when it is too late, while an unusually husky or raspy voice that may be an esophageal cancer sympthom at relatively early stage hardly puts a person on alert and prompts him or her to consult a specialist like it should. Generally, due to lack of early sympthoms, as a rule patients are diagnosed with esophageal cancer only when they need to undergo endoscopy for a bleeding ulcer, anaemia, heartburn etc.

To be realistic, efforts should be focussed on what can be done to prevent the development of this mortal condition by a person himself or herself. On the whole, to reduce the risks of esophageal cancer, an individual should care to assure he/she receives adequate and healthy nutrition, while adequate dental care is simply vital.

What can be done specifically to reduce esophageal cancer risk

The heavier you smoke, the greater is your risk of falling ill. The same pertains to drinking very hot tea, low quality spirits, or excessive alcohol drinking. The study by the Dutch throat cancer researchers revealed connection of 2 two forms of esophageal cancer with smoking. They also discovered evident and strong connection between drinking and at least one other form of esophageal cancer. According to Jessie Steevens of the Department of Epidemiology at Maastricht University, an average person taking 4 glasses of alcohol a day expose themselves to 5 times bigger risk of developing the cancer compared to a none-drinker. From the other hand, several other sources say moderate consumption of good quality read wine reduces the risks of developing esophageal cancer by more than 50%, supposedly due to antioxidants contained in wines.

You are decreasing the risk of developing esophageal cancer, if you are:
  • Using aspirin or related drugs
  • Consuming cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, green and yellow vegetables, and fruits
  • Moderate coffee drinker
Your have increase risks of developing esophageal cancer, if you are:
  • Over 60 years of age
  • If you are male
  • Have close relatives with cancer
  • Tobacco smoke or heavy alcohol driker, or both
  • Suffering from Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Infected with human papillomavirus (HPV)
  • Using dietary substances like nitrosamine
  • Having medical history of other head and neck cancers
  • Plummer-Vinson syndrome (anemia and esophageal webbing)
  • Tylosis and Howel-Evans syndrome
  • Someone who underwent radiation therapy
  • Obese
  • Hot beverages, especially hot brewed tea drinker
What's new

MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, analyzed 210 esophageal cancer cases and revealed potentially critical importance of the so-called genetic variations within the PI3K/PTEN/AKT/mTOR pathway that could be used to possibly define inherent resistance to certain chemotherapeutic agents and radiation in some patients. This sort of genetic testing might turn out a novel way to hopefully begin controlling the esophageal cancer evolution to at least slow down the desease progressing.

About Israel's National Health Insurance Law (1995)

Israel's National Health Insurance Law (1995) mandates universal and comprehensive health care and requires every resident of Israel to register with one of Israel’s four health care organizations. The law makes it illegal for health funds to bar applicants on any grounds, including age and state of health. [18]

The National Health Insurance Law institutionalizes the state's responsibility to provide residents a broad array of health services, which include:

  • Medical diagnosis and treatment;
  • Preventive medicine and health education;
  • Hospitalization (general, maternity, psychiatric and chronic);
  • Surgery and transplants (treatment not available in Israel is covered abroad);
  • Preventive dental care for children;
  • First aid and transportation to a hospital or clinic;
  • Medical services at the workplace;
  • Medical treatment for drug abuse and alcoholism;
  • Medical equipment and appliances;
  • Obstetrics and fertility treatment;
  • Treatment of injuries caused by violence;
  • Medication, in accordance with an order issued by the Ministry of Health;
  • Treatment of chronic diseases;
  • Paramedical services, including physical therapy and occupational therapy.

    Israel continues to treat Palestinians in its medical system

    In December 1994, the Palestinian Authority assumed responsibility for all aspects of the Palestinian population’s civilian life, including health and medical services. Despite this and even in the midst of the ongoing conflict, Israel continues to treat Palestinians in its medical system.

    Many major hospitals in Israel regularly treat Palestinians every day. In 2007, Israel issued Palestinians 50 percent more permits to receive health care in Israel than the year prior: in Gaza alone, Israel issued more than 7,000 permits for Palestinian patients and almost 8,000 permits for their escorts.

    Ashkelon’s Barzilai Medical Center even tends to those wounded in inter-factional fighting in the Gaza Strip. “Everyone receives the same treatment in the same wards, regardless of ethnic origin or nationality,” said Dr. Ron Lobel, the hospital's medical director. “We deliver the service equally, whether [patients] come from Gaza or … Sderot.“

    Israel intensively focuses efforts to ensure that Palestinian and other Arab babies and children receive state-of-the-art medical care through a variety of hospitals, medical center and specialized programs. (Source: Israeli Project)

    Israeli doctors train medical professionals from other countries

    Israel consistently exports its medical, human and technological resources for humanitarian purposes around the world. For example, since 1998, the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sponsored 56 courses in which Israeli doctors train medical professionals from more than 100 countries, including Central and South America, Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe. About 1,200 physicians have been trained through these courses. The course, which focussed on emergency and disaster treatment, was held in April 2008 in cooperation with the World Health Organization.

    Medical Organizations in Israel

    In addition to standard care facilities, Israelis rely on a system of government-funded, non-profit and volunteer-based organizations. They include:

    • Yad Sarah, the largest voluntary health organization in Israel, provides a variety of free or nominal-cost services for sick, disabled and elderly people and their families.

    • ZAKA (Hebrew acronym for 'Disaster Victim Identification') is a humanitarian voluntary organization of almost 1,000 volunteers who respond to tragic incidents, typically terror attacks, in Israel. ZAKA is known for its mission to protect human dignity and accord the dead the respect and customary treatment required by Jewish tradition and law.

    • Magen David Adom provides Israel's emergency medical services, which include first aid stations, a nationwide blood donor program, blood banks, first aid courses, and a public ambulance service equipped with intensive care units. As many as 10,000 volunteers, many of them high school students, serve at 120 stations throughout the country.

    • Magen David Adom, after a decades-long struggle to join the International Red Cross using an alternative symbol to the traditional cross, became a member of the worldwide humanitarian organization in June 2006, following a two-day International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent. The Red Crescent is frequently used in place of the Red Cross in many Islamic countries.

    • The Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) has been, and continues to be, a formative influence in the development of Israel’s health care system, and is also one of the world’s leading institutions in healthcare. Hadassah operates two medical facilities in Israel – the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center at Ein Kerem and the Hadassah University Hospital at Mount Scopus - in addition to five schools, out-patients clinics, research facilities and community health centers. Combined, HMO facilities treat over one million patients annually. Hadassah Medical Organization prioritizes clinical and scientific research and is committed to educating health care professionals without regard to race, religion or national origin. Half of all medical research in Israel is conducted at Hadassah facilities.

    Israel has 32,000 practicing physicians and approximately 9,000 dentists and 6,000 pharmacists for a population of less than 7 million: At one time, Israel had the highest doctor-patient ratio in the world. Medical professional can train at any of Israel's four medical schools, two schools of dentistry, two schools of pharmacology and 20 nursing schools.

    How to lead a normal life after being diagnosed HIV positive?

    Don't press the panic button in case your HIV reports have just tested positive. The world will not come crashing down. You have to be bold enough to take on the world with a positive mindset. Just remember that you are not the only one infected; and with the improvement in science and technology, the virus can be controlled. Although a permanent cure does not exist you can live normally with a few precautions in mind.

    Your friends and family should be taken into confidence. Their support will guide you a long way. Lift your morale and try taking advice or a counselor or a social worker who works in this field. Talking will help you to relieve you of the stress and anxiety you face initially. Education holds the key in keeping yourself updated about the disease and its effects on you. There are several informative websites on the internet which can guide you. Take guidance of your local health department. Your immune system is the worst affected because of this disease so visit the doctor every week or fortnight.

    It is the most dreaded disease because it attacks your immune system and makes you susceptible to a lot of other ailments. The Viral Load test and the CD4 test are reliable tests that give the doctor an accurate idea of how much HIV virus is in your bloodstream. It is the viral test that determines the intensity of virus that is present in your bloodstream and the CD4 test that can find out how strong your immune system is at the time of the test.

    HIV (human immunodeficiency syndrome) is definitely not a contagious disease and it cannot be spread through hugging, sharing the toilet seat or sharing utensils. Your family should also do a research on this topic so that they are at ease. HIV carrier is transmitted via the sharing of contaminated needles, from an HIV infected mother to baby during birth or due to breastfeeding. The main source of transmission is sex with an infected partner.

    The huge variety of medicines available today for controlling this disease can be confusing. Rely on your medical consultant. Century old traditional practices like acupuncture and some herbs are known to cure cancer but it is only a myth. They may give you some relief or benefit but consult a renowned practitioner.

    If you are feeling isolated and left alone join some voluntary organization that deals in the uplifted of people affected by HIV/AIDS. These services might also give you the confidence to carry on your life normally. There are a lot of people who carry this deadly virus, who run such organizations and help people in distress.

    Prayers can comfort you at this juncture and have faith in God, the almighty.

    About the Author: John Mahoney runs diagnosehivsymptoms.com, a health related blog dedicated to provide all the information about HIV and AIDS. Check out this blog to know more about what to do if you are diagnosed HIV positive and signs of HIV infection.

    5 Ways For Colon Cancer Prevention

    An increasing number of people are diagnosed with colon cancer and research studies are now underway on finding a treatment and ways on how best to prevent it from developing. Colon cancer usually starts in the large intestine and from dead cells that have been accumulated in a lump over a period of time. You are at greater risk to getting colon cancer if you have a genetic medical history of parents or close relatives who have been diagnosed with colon cancer. Research also showed that that colon cancer can be triggered by unhealthy diets such as processed foods.

    Early detection is key to recovery. Hence, it is vital that you seek the advice of your doctor should you feel the discomfort of colon cancer symptoms. The symptoms to keep a watch for include unhealthy bowel occurrence such as diarrhea, constipation or bowel infection, severe pain in abdomen, blood in the stools, narrow stools, anemia and drastic loss of weight.

    Obviously, it is best to adopt colon cancer prevention ways rather than be diagnosed and then seeking for a treatment for it. Here are 5 easy on how best to prevent colon cancer:

    1. Instill healthy habits. Colon cancer usually takes time to develop. Hence you should not wait till you notice the symptoms of colon cancer before starting to adopt healthy habits. Healthy habits include having balanced diet, regular exercise and ensuring that you have an adequate amount of sleep.

    Additionally, you should definitely think of including more fiber in your diet. Fat accumulates on the walls of the intestine and rectum. These form lumps of dead cells which can pose a threat to you. For fiber, ensure that your diet includes lots of green vegetables, fruits and water.

    Make it a point to exercise a few times a week. Exercise is wonderful for flushing out harmful toxins and waste matter. If they are left accumulated in your body, the toxins can cause cancerous growth.

    2. You should take note of your family medical history, since colon cancer is a genetic disease that is hereditary. If you really do belong to the high risk category due to your family history, then all the more you should take extra precautions by leading a lifestyle based on wellness.

    3. Quit smoking. Chain smoking raises your chance to developing colon cancer. Inhaling tobacco can easily transfer carcinogen (a cancer agent) to your colon and rectum, thus resulting in colon cancer. Smoking also brings about many other health threats. Hence, you should quit smoking as a top priority.

    4. Reduce exposure to radiation. Excessive exposure to radiation has been found to cause colon cancer. Radiation rays are harmful and can cause healthy normal cells to be abnormal. You should make it a point to avoid unnecessary X-rays, CT scans, mammograms.

    5. If you find yourself having symptoms like eczema, frequent flu, allergies, weak immune system, poor movement of bowels, low energy levels, bloating, etc, then these signs may be indicative of too much toxins in your body. The only way to get rid of these toxins is to perform colon cleansing before they pose a problem. There are a few ways to perform colon cleansing; including consuming colon cleansing herbs and colon hydrotherapy. You can consult with a natural health expert for more detailed advice.

    Sandra Kim Leong writes on colon cleansing. Her site also includes information on detox cleansing, detox diets, juice fasting, etc. For more article tips, please visit her site at www.detox-cleansing.com

    Doctor Jobs in Australia

    As doctor shortage worsens, Australia’s reliance on overseas trained doctors will continue to grow. Overseas trained doctors are an extremely valuable resource but it is imperative for the future of the Australian health system to pursue the right recruitment and retention strategies.

    In 2007 the Australian Rural and Remote Workforce Agencies Group CEO Dr Kim Webber said: “Recruiting the right doctors to address each community’s needs is a critical issue and a complex process. We need to ensure all doctors applying for positions in Australia are suitably qualified and have an appropriate employment history before their CV’s are forwarded to prospective employers and communities. The next step is to have mechanisms in place to provide support for the doctor and his or her family in their new community.”

    Rural Workforce Agencies are not for profit organisations established in each State and the Northern Territory to responsibly recruit and retain General Practitioners. One of the strengths of the Rural Workforce Agencies is that they not only recruit doctors to rural communities but they also support them to stay there as long as possible.

    The suggested model of intensively supporting doctors really does work with domestic doctors. 80 per cent of Western Australian GPs who have completed 5 years of mandatory working in a rural area of need continue to live and work in rural communities, even though they could further work anywhere in Australia.

    Rural Workforce Agencies have enjoyed such success in recruitment and retention because of the careful selection and induction process and the intensive supports they provide GP’s such as locum relief, educational supports and addressing family and personal needs.

    Michael Jackson Autopsy Results

    The autopsy took place Friday morning. Even if it may take two weeks to get the official results of Michael Jackson's autopsy, the autopsy itself has already been completed, and according to the source, which has provided the information under condition of anonymity, the autopsy revealed no signs of violence or trauma. The death must be attributed to heart attack followed by cardiac arrest. The name of the doctor, who performed the CPR on Michael Jackson, is Conrad Murray, and he is a cardiologist. Mr. Murray's car was found by the police near Michael Jackson's home when the police arrived at the scene. It was then taken by the police to the Police Station for examination, since inside there could be samples of medications used by the doctor in the last desperate attempt to save Michael Jackson's life. The police also released announcement saying Conrad Murray is not suspected on the case, though he was actually the sole witness at the time the heart attack began.

    From the other hand, it is alleged that Michael Jackson died after receiving an injection of painkiller Demerol, which was reportedly "too much". According to the Rev. Jesse Jackson, a longtime friend, who had spent Friday with the Jacksons, the family is suspicious of the fact that the doctor had left the scene, was not available to sign the death certificate or answer the family's questions about their son's final moments, according to the ABC News. Rev. Jesse Jackson also said it's possible the family would ask for an independent autopsy.

    Michael Jackson died 25 June at UCLA Medical Center.

Since this is a condition that afflicts four per cent of the entire population on a regular basis, there are now several hemorrhoid removal clinics that are now open. These specialty clinics can be found in most major cities and your doctor will be able to provide you with a referral to one that is close to your location.

    Many hemorrhoid removal clinics also offer other special services, such as Colon Cancer Screening. These scans are now being recommended for all adults over the age of 50, at least once every five years. This can increase the chances of discovering colon cancer, which typically grows quite slowly. Since it can remain undetected for many years, it is very important to get a regular evaluation in order to check on the state of your colon's health. Colon cancer can be prevented with regular evaluations, and if it occurs it can be treated, but treatment is much more effective during the early stages of the disease.

    Hemorrhoid removal clinics will be able to offer patients a wide variety of options. Whether it is non-invasive treatments that can be performed on an outpatient basis, or more serious procedures, these clinics have much to offer patients. Sometimes patients will have both hemorrhoid and Anal Fissures. Most find that it is very beneficial to visit a hemorrhoid removal clinic, since they do have a specialized method of treatment and many more options than are commonly offered.

    There are numerous treatments that can be obtained at a hemorrhoid removal clinic. Most are painless and offer a very brief recovery time. Some of these treatments are 98% effective in the permanent removal of hemorrhoids, and they offer a viable alternative to patients who prefer a more comprehensive solution as opposed to topical treatments that do not address the actual condition.

    When visiting a Hemorrhoid Removal clinic for the first time, you will be evaluated to determine which method of removal is right for you. Since there are so many different options, you will be able to select a treatment that you are comfortable with. It is important to make sure that you share your entire medical history with these specialists so that they have all the information required to treat your condition.

    Visiting a hemorrhoid removal clinic is very beneficial, especially if you have suffered from chronic hemorrhoids for several years. By completely removing the problem, you can return to an active lifestyle without the pain and discomfort of this condition.

    What is Concierge Medicine?

    A concept that originated in Seattle over 15 years ago, Concierge Medicine is a type of medical practice now found in many metropolitan areas across the country. Also known as "Concierge Health Care", "Boutique Medicine" or "Retainer Medicine", the concept has come to represent a higher level of healthcare for those who want a more personalized relationship with their physician.

    In most concierge practices, doctors provide their patients with 24-hour a day access to them via cell phone, as well as offer their patients with the option of house calls in order to make their medical care as convenient as possible. This model has proven successful for those physicians who want to see a fewer number of patients on a day to day basis thus allowing them to spend more time nourishing individual patient relationships.

    For patients, concierge healthcare has brought back an old-style format of medicine in a modern world. The concierge doctor serves as a family doctor for many concierge patients and allows families the comfort of knowing that medical advice is only a phone call away. For busy executives, the concierge doctor allows for these professionals to receive medical care at a time and place that is convenient. In some practices, the executive concierge model includes features such as executive physicals and the option of having a doctor come directly to the office during the workweek in order to maximize time.

    At the upper echelon of concierge medicine are practices, like EliteHealth, which integrate the traditional concierge model and match it with an advanced level of diagnostic care and true concierge services.

    In the case of Miami, FL based EliteHealth, members enjoy the benefit of having access to on-site laboratories and the best diagnostic equipment available in medicine today, including the latest in MRI, CAT Scanning and Ultrasound technology. The ability to make most diagnoses in a single visit saves concierge patients the time of having to return to the office for a follow-up visit. This, in complement with a dedicated Patient Care Concierge and the ability to network and consult online through a patient portal sets the EliteHealth model above most other concierge practices found nationwide.

    While the amenities may vary from practice to practice, the common thread found in concierge medicine is a commitment to delivering the highest level of healthcare to member patients. While the level of customization may vary, the commitment does not. In a climate where the nation's healthcare system is failing a great percentage of the population, the concierge medicine model has emerged as a way for people to have a direct relationship with their physician in order to ensure their healthcare needs are met. For doctors who are constantly under the pressure of seeing more and more patients in order to recuperate money lost to diminishing reimbursements (from insurance companies), concierge medicine has allowed them to get back to what they love - practicing medicine.

    Colon Cancer Case Proves Medical Malpractice

    Did you know that, according to the stats, medical malpractice is considered the 3-rd leading cause of death in the USA with only cancer ranking higher? According to the the Journal of the American Medical Association, every year during the past decade the average of 250,000 people died across the nation due to medical malpractice.

    In its own turn, among the five diseases most frequently associated with the medical malpractice, the colon cancer also occupies the 3-rd place, preceded by breast cancer and lung cancer, and followed by heart attack, and appendicitis. The late or wrong diagnosis means delay in starting medication or surgery to result in a poor cure outcome, and often premature death.

    In case of filing compensation lawsuit victims or their heirs may count on being compensated damages associated with extra pain and frustration, as well as have hospital and medications bills re-imboursed, or get the compensation for deterioration of victim's quality of life in general.

    The recent often cited lawsuit filed by George Westhouse against St. Lucia's Hospital in Baltimore Metro area is very eloquent.

    The plaintiff accused the defendant claiming that the clinic was negligent and commited professional malpractice through failing to inform the patient about the need to perform colon cancer screening as it is required past the age of 50. G. Westhouse also claimed that the defendant failed to address certain evident symptoms of cancer, such as low back pain and the ubrupt loss of normal weight by patient.

    The defendant didn't admit the clinic's staff was negligent, claiming nothing they did or failed to do could have caused or have accelerated the patient's death. The defendant further claimed colorectal cancer screening also was discussed with the plaintiff's decedent, but the decedent just refused to undergo colonoscopy, though not in written form. Ultimately the case was settled prior to copurt trial within the maximum policy limits of $US 1,350,000.

    German boy survives the strike of meteorite

    14-year-old hit by 30,000 mph space meteorite

    A schoolboy has survived a direct hit by a meteorite after it fell to earth at 30,000mph.

    Gerrit Blank, 14, was on his way to school when he saw "ball of light" heading straight towards him from the sky.

    A red hot, pea-sized piece of rock then hit his hand before bouncing off and causing a foot wide crater in the ground.

    The teenager survived the strike, the chances of which are just 1 in a million - but with a nasty three-inch long scar on his hand.

    He said: "At first I just saw a large ball of light, and then I suddenly felt a pain in my hand.

    "Then a split second after that there was an enormous bang like a crash of thunder."

    "The noise that came after the flash of light was so loud that my ears were ringing for hours afterwards.

    "When it hit me it knocked me flying and then was still going fast enough to bury itself into the road," he explained.

    Scientists are now studying the pea-sized meteorite which crashed to Earth in Essen, Germany.

    "I am really keen on science and my teachers discovered that the fragment is really magnetic," said Gerrit.

    Chemical tests on the rock have proved it had fallen from space.

    Ansgar Kortem, director of Germany's Walter Hohmann Observatory, said: "It's a real meteorite, therefore it is very valuable to collectors and scientists.

    "Most don't actually make it to ground level because they evaporate in the atmosphere. Of those that do get through, about six out of every seven of them land in water," he added.

    The only other known example of a human being surviving a meteor strike happened in Alabama, USA, in November 1954 when a grapefruit-sized fragment crashed through the roof of a house, bounced off furniture and landed on a sleeping woman.

    Illinois State University Violates Admission Rules

    The Governor of Illinois created an independent state commission, consisting of 7 members, that will investigate questionable practices of admitting new students. The commission will, probably, also probe whether any of the students that were admitted on recommendation sooner than thanks to them passing successfully the entrance tests got any legislative scholarships.

    The allegations that the University of Illinois had been admitting students based on their family ties began soon after the Chicago Tribune made statement it is going to going to bring the case to court for its refusal to produce the tests with the scores and grades of the students. The Tribune didn't tell the names, anyway it mentioned a relative of Antoin Rezko that was convicted in 2008 on corruption charges. Currently Antoin ("Tony") Rezko is in prison. The relative is said to have been admitted through the intervention of the former governor Rod Blagojevich, who was also charged with federal corruption.

    There's much rumour about the so-called clout list or "category 1" list, whose existence was admitted by the University of Illinois President B. Joseph White. According to the News-Gazette, the House Speaker Michael Madigan knew about the clout list, and even personally referred over 40 persons there. Madigan was cited as saying this list existed merely as a convenience reference list. :)

    The state panel, consisting of 7 persons, headed by the former federal judge and Abner Mikva, has 60 days to investigate alleged admission malpractices by the Illinois University.
